Why do people GameMaker?

I really can't understand it. Game Maker produces large executables, with room sizes same as resolution, they don't help in using load-on-demand stuff, and real programming isn't much harder. It's not flexible, has a slow scripting language, while real programs using OpenGL, DirectX or something else are fast and small, and writing game from scratch is much more satisfying. So why do people Game Maker?

One reason why you might make a game with Game Maker is so that you don't have to code a whole game engine. Game Maker takes care of that and all of the graphical manipulation.

1. I find that an usual requirement, they must have balls to help you?
2. Since this is an intellectual problem, they must have testosterone to help you?
3. Are you ashamed that someone that is different then you is able to help you?

As to your question, darktemplar: I've never really seen GameMaker before, but I would guess that people use it because it's easy or just what they find to use to make a game. Also, some people may not know how to build a game completely from scratch, so they use something that will help them. Like people who aren't that good with HTML using Dreamweaver to help build a website or whatever.

More on topic, what is GameMaker? Is it a bad program?
Some people are just too lazy to program in every aspect of a game, such as what to do when up is pressed, what to do when some other button is pressed, etc. I know I am.

If you don't want to bother about game engine, use something available. For example in DelphiX you have DXSprite, which manages all sprites with tiled background and collisions.
