Making Music

Postby Chosen_one » Sat Apr 15, 2006 8:42 pm

I just have a question: How do you make a music file?

When I go to the Newgrounds Audio Portal, I hear a lot of high quality music that has a lot of instruments. I highly doubt that the users of Newgrounds actually have an entire orchestra playing for them.

So how do you make music on a computer?

People use synths... hook them up to their computer, use a mixing program of some sort to create seperate tracks, compress them and stuff. Although you'll need basic keyboard skills and music knowledge to work it.

I'm not exactly sure how much the synthesizers or the programs are, but I'm positive that really good ones are expensive... xD;;

Yeah, I hope that helpses!

Alot of the music also comes from "free music" websites like FlashKit. The music found on these sites is royalty free so that anyone can use it in their productions. Even commercials now are using music like this (saves them the money and trouble of composing and recording it). This is likely where alot of NewsGrounds people get their music.

FlashKit and SoundDogs are the two "royalty free" sites I know of in particular. Google-ing them should lead you right to them. :)

I use Storm 2.0. It's awesome, and it has tons of synthesizing instruments and FX.
thank you all for the good memories <3
