Need a laugh?

I was bored, so I ran the script (the original French, from Le Site) for TeddyGoZilla through an online translator.

What resulted was the darn funniest thing I've ever read.

Some of the translations are wierd (what is 'date' in the English is 'rider' in the French. It's probably slang or something, but it's downright creepy sounding.). Some words didn't even translate. (schtroumfs!). Mmyep.

Since I am not sure of the script version, some stuff may be...not right.

Here's part of the script. I've added some commentary, but if that annoys you, you can request an uncommented version.

---

italics- Words that I don’t think translated correctly.
Bold- my comments.
Underlined: Parts I think were cut (I mean, not even changed) from the English version. Since I am not sure of the version of the script, it may have even been cut from the French as well.
Bold Underlined: My- by hand- translation of cut dialogue, as if they had been in the show itself.

1. Ext. - room of the fetes - day (effect of video camera)

OPENING on a flood of video parasites. Video parasites…cool.

1 - Milly (off)
Does that turn?

A video image - woven and with the red indicator of recording - appears. It is with back. One guesses, badly tallied, the village hall of the college. Now peeps…’college’ means high school in French. It is a large room with a estrade at the bottom, who allows all the meetings, film shows, plays...

2 - Tamiya (off)
Wait! It is with back! Guess that means ‘upside down’.

The image is cut.

2. Ext. - room of the fetes - day (effect of video camera)

New flash of video parasites. The image reappears, at the place this time, It is a sight of Milly planted in front of the village hall and of which the tone "very" pro contrasts in a touching and awkward way with its pace of small girl.

3 - Milly
Dear friends of the Kadic college, hello. Milly and Tamiya, classify of the sixth B, Must be some French school classification. of the sixth grade, in exclusiveness for the newspaper in the school. As you all know it, this evening it is the great evening, that of the annual ball of our dear school. Hm…ball.

The camera withdraws supports and zoome Zoome? Hah. on the windows "to steal" Eh? some plans, badly tallied and trembling, interior of the village hall.

4 - Milly (in, off)
Our cameras were not authorized to enter the Holy of Holies Okay…weird translation there. where the festivities will take place. But we will make very to hold our informed public hour per hour of the preparations of this so much awaited festival.

Among the silhouettes of pupils who decorate the room, the camera hangs Yumi, Ulrich and Odd who were affairentclose to the sound system, tally one Sissi moment which parades without anything to make, then returns in brutal side on our heroes.

5 - Tamiya (off)
Wouah! What it is beautiful, Ulrich...

6 - Milly (off)
Keep silent yourself, Tamiya... that records!

Hmm…that would have been a funny line.

Tamiya: Ulrich sure is dreamy…
Milly: Shut up, Tamiya! That’ll be on the tape!

The camera returns brutally Eh? on Milly which smiles of all its teeth.

7 - Milly
In this connection, I see that which will be perhaps elected beauty queen like the year the last... girl of our headmaster: Sissi! I from this step will ask him some questions...

Indeed behind it, Sissi leaves, flanked of Nicolas and Herve. Herve…yay.

8 - Milly
Sissi, some words for the newspaper of the school before the festival of this evening?

9 - Sissi
Afflicted the dwarf ones. What an excellent line. I speak only to the pros!

The glance of Sissi passes from Milly to the objective of the video camera with an expression of absolute contempt. Under the blow, Tamiya withdraws supports and films nothing any more but its feet. I guess they’re talking about when Herb (Herve) hit the camera.

3. Ext. - village hall - day

Sissi measures both small glance.

10 - Sissi
No time to lose with your idiocies.

Mines déconfites of Milly and Tamiya.

11 - Milly
But it is for the newspaper of the college! There is the right well...

12 - Sissi
Milly, the schtroumfs Wasn’t translated, but man, that word sounds awesome! SCHTROUMFS! of your age do not have any right, OK! And especially, you do not have anything to make in our festival!

Under the blow of this exit, the eyes of small Milly shine of tears. Aww…small Milly. Sissi adds some with cruelty.

13 - Sissi
In any case, you need a rider! Rider? WT? That…sounds like sexual innuendo or something. And nobody will want of a washout as you... (it Yay…Sissi is an it. designates Herve and Nicolas) Même them, they do not want. Then imagine you!

Mugs of Herve and Nicolas. Milly outlines a pained grimace.

14 - Milly
It is... it is not true...

Sissi crosses the arms, narquoise.

15 - Sissi
Ah? And Ben go ahead! Find in one, of rider! There it is again…seriously.

---

Due to time restraints, I'll have to cut it off there. But you have to admit, it is pretty funny.

I really don't get it. *has a desire to dye hair brown* So this is what the episode would have been via an actual interpriter (sorry about my spelling)?

XD No...this actually just goes to show how unreliable Online Translators are in most cases. They'll give you the most common meaning for a word...not necessarily the correct one. ^^;

The best example of this is how they keep talking about "Riders". The word being translated there is "Cavalier" which is actually the French word for "Knight", and has sinceforth become the slang term for an escort or "date". We get the adjective "cavalier" (which usually means "gallant" or "chivalrous") from this word. :)

"Mere" is mother..."Meme" tends to mean, "even" or "same". I think "Schtroumfs" is French slang for "mushrooms/toadstools"...although in our English version it's translated as "Dipsticks". I'm not 100% sure on that one...you've hit it on the nose as to the translations of "Fete" and "Estrade", to be sure. :D

Heh...oh. Now it all makes sense.

Still think the 'rider' thing is creepy.

Here's the rest that I couldn't post last night because my mom wanted me to go to bed. Don't you hate when that happens? I'm stopping at what I think is a commercial.

---

Attracted by the scandal, some pupils left on the porch the village hall, among them Yumi is, Ulrich and Odd.

Milly seeks of the assistance. Its Now, Milly is NOT an it. glance éperdu falls on Ulrich.

16 - Milly
Ulrich... you, you... you would like to be my rider? And again…yes...

Silence, all the glances turned to Ulrich. It cannot what answer. That and there, some sniggers fuse.

17 - Ulrich
Ecoute Milly... euh... it would not be very reasonable. I am too old for you. And then... euh... I promised to go there with Yumi.

Milly loses foot, increasingly lost.

18 - Sissi
You see? What I said?! But comforts itself, Milly, with the boom of the sand vats, Sand vats? Interesting. you will find surely a rider! AGAIN! Eurgh… While waiting turns over to play with your headstocks! Headstocks. Also interesting.

It too is for Milly. It bursts in sobs and flees, followed by Tamiya.

19 - Tamiya
Milly! Waits! Waits!

Yumi, Ulrich and Odd throw a black look with Sissi.

20 - Yumi
Be proud for you of you, I hope? Hm…

Sissi looks them in return of an air of challenge.

4. Int - room of Jérémie - day
In its room, Jeremy Hey…this was supposed to be French! What’s this ‘Jeremy’ stuff? His name is Jérémie! JEREMIE! sat in front of its computer. It types on its keyboard at any speed while speaking in a microphone connected to its computer.

21 - Jeremy (concentrated)
Aelita? Here, Jeremy. You receive me?

One SIDE along the sets of cables which connect the computer of Jérémie on the ground. So THAT’s what it is…

5. Int - connecting cables – day

One travels in cables, at the speed of an electric pulsation...

6. Ext. - Lyokô (desert) - alternation of days and nights

One re-appears above the world of Lyokô and one is centered on one of the four worlds which make it up: the plate of the desert... The desert is flown over. It is an arid plate planted of volumes of stone to the masses asymmetrical and traversed cables where the numerical song of Xana resounds. I think this means that XANA is in the wires. Several girded towers of protuberances are visible in the distance. Yeah…don’t ask me. One recadre a small silhouette which goes in the medium of the desert. Its lips do not move but it emits a kind of musical tablecloth whose softness and harmony make counterpoint with the principal numerical pulsation. Aelita wasn’t making any noise in the English…really, I have no clue with this… Words take form within this strange music. The voice of Jérémie. The sexy voice of Jeremie. Wait, his voice isn’t sexy. He is. Ya. Ignore that.

22 - Jeremy (off)
Aelita?

Aelita ceases going and smiles. Was she moving?

7. Int - room of Jérémie - day

The smiling face of Aelita is posted on the screen of Jérémie.

23 - Aelita
Hello. You are well?

Jeremy smiles tenderly to the young girl. Aww…

24 - Jeremy
Well. And... and you?

Aelita agrees.

25 - Aelita
Yes. I saw anything of private individual on the level of the turns. All has me the calm air. Finally... for the moment.

26 - Jeremy (a little constrained)
As you say. (reddening, Yeah. Bet he is. hesitating) You know, I have advanced in my research for... so that you can come to live with us.

Enthusiastic mine of Aelita.

27 - Aelita
Matérialisation? Found you?

Jeremy shakes the head, afflicted.

28 - Jeremy
Ben... not yet. But I work there! One will arrive there, you know. And Xana will not be able anything any more against you. Ni counters us!

To smile benevolent of Aelita.

29 - Aelita
I know.

8. Int - room of milly and tamiya - day Hey…no capitalization!

In tears, followed of Tamiya, Milly enters the room I don’t think they showed the entering in the English. which they divide. It is a universe of child (cuddly toys, headstocks) but which côtoient already computers, scanners, printers and series of photographs punaized on the walls which are useful to them with the drafting of the newspaper. Yeah…bet so.

30 - Tamiya
Milly, do not cry... One will be there, with the festival. For the newspaper! Mr Jim agrees. Up to nine hours! Mister Jim? Hey, he respected!

Milly does not listen, it seizes with arm the body its teddy bear fetish …Fetish? with the inexpressive face and tightens it of all its forces.

31 - Milly
It is not the sorrow! The only thing that they want, the large ones, it is us to send to trott Eeeh? or ridicule us. Saw you well? They drive us and of our newspaper!

None of the two small girls notices that one their computers ignites. Ignites… interesting. A wave of parasites then an image. A?il.

A short circuit grésille the mural catch of the computer.

9. Int - connecting cables - indetermine
One travels in cables, at the speed of an electric pulsation.
10 Ext. - Lyokô - alternation of days and nights
One re-appears above the world of Lyokô, that one briefly flies over as the floods of data do it which cross it.

11 Int - virtual space of xana - indetermine
To lead to the c?ur of darkness of a dark and abstract virtual space.

32 - Milly (off)
Ah! I hate them! Everyone, you hear! All! I hate them all!

Something awakes, a numerical breath deep and grésillant. Xana is with listening.

12 Int - room of milly and tamiya - day
The breath is reflected in grésillement deaf across the screen saturated with the computer.

33 - Tamiya
You say that because you are in anger...

Milly made volte face and it leaves the part, its bear in the arms.

34 - Milly
Leave me! I want that me am card-indexed peace! O…keh….

Tamiya looks at it starting from a sorry air.

35 - Tamiya (for itself)
The fact remains that it could have been more sympathetic, Ulrich...

13 Ext. - college kadic/ handing-over of the garden - day
Its bear in the arms, Milly surveys the deserted alleys of the college.
It passes close to a pylon, at the top of which a camera of monitoring films the doors of the college.
With its base, an electric case grésille.
The camera swivels on its axis, its objective follows the displacement of Milly.
The small girl moves towards the handing-over of the garden and enters there.

14 Ext. - village hall - day
With the village hall, the preparations of the evening began again.

15 Int - village hall - day
Odd, Ulrich, Yumi and Jérémie (which joined them) complete to install the sound system, classifying discs, assembling elements of chain or moving enclosures strategically.

36 - Yumi
T'en make a head, Ulrich! It is because of Milly? Had you that to say to him Tense correction, yo. Milly’s a she. yes! (raising the shoulders) Me, you know, the ball of the college...

Odd, who danced like insane in a corner Maybe that’s when he twirls the microphone, but for now I’m classifying it as cut., address to Yumi a parody reverence and a covering joint of ?il.

37 - Odd (malicious Not really.)
Even if I accompany you?

Yumi smiles without answering. Ulrich hardly listens, the face diverted towards the windows, concerned air.

38 - Ulrich
Is necessary to say that Sissi made very extremely. If cruelty forms part of qualities of a queen of ball, it has all the chances to be re-elected this year! YA BETZ!

Ulrich spoke rather extremely so that Sissi, who admired himself HERself… in an ice Guessin that means disco ball. at some distance, hears and is turned over.

39 – Jeremy reMIE!
It is true. But tries to render comprehensible that in Miss World.

40 - Odd
Miss World? Immonde Miss, yes...

Aggravated, Sissi leaves the village hall She didn’t leave in the English…, always flanked of Herve and Nicolas and throwing to the passage a glance of scorn to the band.

16 Int - handing-over of the garden - day
The handing-over is encumbered tools of gardening. Apart from the light of the outside which filters there badly by dusty windows, the place is lit by a single naked bulb fixed at the ceiling.

Milly sat by ground, the round back in support against the wood wall, arms tightened around its knees. The bear is posed close to it, in the half-light.

41 - Milly (with its bear)
You at least, you t'en cards of my age, hein?

It throws a short glance on the face of cuddly toy stripped of expression. Ah well…at least it understands on the inside.

42 - Milly
Both are included/understood. It is not as these imbeciles Imbecile. What an awesome name. the large ones who want to always make the law...

With the ceiling, the bulb grésille and undergoes a variation of tension. Around the bear, the shades seem sudden to extend. Something of black leaves the electrical connector. A kind of misty form, spectral, distends towards the cuddly toy and Milly. Was this in it?

43 - Milly (off)
They believe that because one is young, one counts for nothing....

Milly did not notice the spectrum.

44 - Milly
But if one were tall, very large, larger than them, there... they would laugh less!

Plan of cut outside the handing-over. Tamiya arrives while running close to the handing-over, a Polaroid camera with the hand. It types with the door of the handing-over and actuates the handle. This one is closed with key.

45 - Tamiya
Milly! Be to you there? Finished you being sulky now!? There is work!

One hears the voice of Milly off.

46 - Milly (off, aloud)
That goes, that goes... I arrive! This could be a modern Shakespeare play! No offense, yo…

Return in the handing-over. Milly smiles to its bear and gives him a friendly flick on the nose.

47 - Milly (facetious)
You do not move from here! I will return to seek you!

Tight plan of the bear which fixes Milly of its small black eyes, rounds and inexpressive...

17 Ext. - handing-over of the garden - day
Milly leaves the handing-over and joined Tamiya. This one tightens the Polaroid camera with his/her friend.

48 - Tamiya
There is a report on the festival to buckle, I announce you!

Milly takes the apparatus and both gamines move away.

Hmm…looks like a scene was added later in production.

And, to kick off the break, here’s Peter Griffin!

Peter Griffin: Aaand…I CAN’T BELIEVE IT’S NOT BUTTER! Hahaha…stick around, more Original French Scripts coming up. D**m, the French sucked, they can’t even get genders right.

(Note: The French do not suck.)

No, you're right. "Champignon" is "mushroom" in French, but I think "Schtroumfs" is another slang term for it or "toadstools"...I can't remember though.

To be sure, because it's slang, and because most of the dialogue in these scripts are written the way the French actually speak (with slang), the online translators can only really give you a jist of what's possibly being said, not a true translation. It's kind of silly really, especially since they only give you one possible definition for a word and not all of them (or the one you're looking for). Like where it translated, "Sand Vats"...that should have been "Sand Box", or "headstocks" which I'm guessing it's translating from the French word "poupee", which actually means "doll" (like a rag doll). XD

Nice job on these though..."TeddyGozilla" has the best double entendre in it, which sadly wasn't kept in the english version. When Millie wishes that she and her teddy were "older", the French word "grande" which can mean "older", can also mean "bigger/larger" as well...which is amusingly what XANA chose to take literally. :*D

These translations are truly amusing! :D

A double entendre is a joke based on how a word is heard or, in this case, defined. For "TeddyGozilla", when Millie, in French uses the adjective "Grande", she's using it to mean "older". However, in the French language, "grande" has more than one meaning depending on how one uses it, and it's second, more literal, meaning is "bigger". So while Millie was wishing that she were "older" than the other kids, XANA decided to take her literally and make the Teddybear bigger instead of older. This could also be considered a "play on words", I think as well.

*looks at post* Erm...I hope that made some sense...I'm not sure I really defined it well enough. *sweatdrops* In any case, some really good double entendres can be found in just about any of the 007/Bond movies. The names of most of the girls in those movies, are entirely double entendres. :)

This translation is really good! helps you get a more thorough understanding of the episode as it was originally.
And the commentary's pretty funny in my opinion, really hits the spot.

The double entendre would also work in spanish if it were translated because that word, grande, spelt identically in both languages, has the same use... although I doubt many people would actually catch and understand that...
